The Next Wave

The Oligasis technology was designed from inception for multi-functionality.  We have created a scaffold technology that enables drug developers, in an elegant way, to connect best of breed large molecule drugs and small molecule drugs into a single medicine.  Due to the flexible nature of the platform, the drug developer can produce any desired ratio between the different drug formats thereby allowing fine tuning of the various doses to provide maximum efficacy.  In addition, our biopolymers are extremely biocompatible and effectively mask the various drug components from the body's normal tissues thus providing maximum safety and efficacy.

Ours is a fundamental technology platform, rooted in the biophysics of water.  More specifically, how water is structured at the boundary layers within and between cells in the body.  Each cell in the body is bounded by a cell membrane, the outer surface of which is composed largely of a molecule called phosphorylcholine (a so-called 'zwitterion' with a perfect balance of positive and negative charges) that binds water so tightly (like ice at room temperature) such that it is not available for exchange with adjacent bulk water.  It is this highly structured water that fundamentally confers biocompatibility to the body's cells.

Building on the natural biocompatibility of the cell, we have designed high molecular weight zwitterion-containing biopolymers that we manufacture into intricate branched structures using new single pot controlled copolymerization approaches.  Our biopolymers carry many times their weight in highly structured water.  To these biopolymers, we chemically attach drugs of differing formats, functions, and stoichiometries.  The end result is a multi-functional medicine shrouded in a massive amount of adjacent structured water.  By mimicking the body's cells and shrouding the drugs with structured water, we make the drugs look natural to the body despite their size and motley composition.  They have what we call Extreme Biocompatibility.  Specific interactions in the body are driven by hydrophilic watery interactions that are polar and directional, as opposed to non-specific interactions in the body which are hydrophobic and non-watery.  Our multi-mechanism drugs are natural and create a local environment for themselves that enhances their on-target, mechanistic effects while decreasing their off-target, non-specific effects.  What this means in layman's terms is that we have a unique and proprietary platform that enables us to build the very flexible, safer and powerful drugs of the future.
